In this follow-up 3-week session, we'll dive deeper into the practical tools and strategies for optimal CBL course delivery. Ideal for faculty who are poised to integrate CBL into their courses or those who are still testing the waters. This segment offers hands-on guidance with leveraging Canvas tools for CBE and mastering pedagogical techniques tailored for CBE success. Gear up for another round of actionable insights and tangible deliverables!

Define the key components of a Competency-Based Education (CBE) syllabus.
Explain the importance of clear and organized syllabus design.
Identify different CBE grading models and their characteristics.
Compare and contrast various CBE grading models to determine their suitability for specific educational contexts.
Investigate effective feedback strategies in the context of CBE grading models.
Analyze the relationship between feedback and student learning outcomes.
Evaluate which feedback strategies align best with different CBE grading models.
Develop an understanding of how tailored feedback can enhance student engagement and performance.
Modify course materials and Canvas content to meet the diverse learning needs of students pursuing competency-based education.
Implement grading practices within Canvas that accurately reflect students' mastery of competencies, including using rubrics and outcomes.
Explain the concept of mastery paths and apply them to create personalized learning journeys for students based on their mastery of predefined competencies.

Module Structure

Each module lasts one week (7 Days). Modules begin on Mondays by 6:00 AM and end on Sundays at midnight.

There are 7 days in each module:

Monday = Day 1
Tuesday = Day 2
Wednesday = Day 3
Thursday = Day 4
Friday = Day 5
Saturday = Day 6
Sunday = Day 7 (Assignments due)

Your Role: The Student and the Teacher

Throughout this course, you will wear two hats: 1) the student taking this course and 2) the instructor of your own course considering the implementation of CBE framework. As you move through each module, you might notice some CBE elements present throughout. You'll notice we don't use points on some of the rubrics. You might also notice competency statements for each module. We hope this will offer valuable insights for how it might feel to be a student in a CBL course and provide examples for your use in your own courses.
